Allison Cox, a sophomore on the Wright State softball team, has been named as the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending February 24, it was announced Tuesday afternoon by the League office.
Cox (Chillicothe, OH/Zane Trace) posted a 1-0 record in three games last week at the USF Louisville Slugger Tournament in Tampa, allowing just three earned run while striking out nine in 15.1 innings of work. In her lone start of the weekend, she threw a complete-game shutout Friday night against Wisconsin, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out seven.
On Saturday versus Georgia Tech, Cox pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless relief, giving up six hits and two walks while fanning two.
On the season, Cox is 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 30 innings. At the plate, she leads the Raiders in home runs with two and is second with seven RBI.
Wright State, now 2-8 on the season, heads South again this weekend, this time for the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Raiders open tournament play on Friday, February 29, taking on Jackson State at 9:45 a.m. followed by Kentucky at noon.
