Four Raiders Garner All-League Honors, Kasmer and Rooma Selected First Team

Senior Defender Cassie Jones Was Named Second Team All-Horizon League on Tuesday

Oct. 30, 2007

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Wright State women's soccer team placed four players on the 2007 All-Horizon League squads, led by First Team selections Amber Kasmer and Jess Rooma. Jen Agueci joined Kasmer on the All-Newcomer squad and senior Cassie Jones was named Second Team All-League.

Kasmer was named to the All-League First Team and became the third WSU player to garner Newcomer of the Year honors. Kasmer joins former WSU midfielder Mary Beth Young and current WSU player Rooma as the three league rookies of the year. WSU is now tied for first in all-time newcomers of the year, joining Butler as the only two schools with more than two in league history.

Kasmer ranked second in the league in goals scored (12) and points (27), while sitting in a tie for ninth with three assists. The rookie scored nine goals in league play and helped WSU tie for the team scoring crown with 32 goals. The rookie is also climbing the single season ranks in goals and points. Kasmer sits in a tie for third in single season goals at WSU and is tied for sixth in total points.

Rooma became only the 18th player in league history to garner All-League First Team honors three straight seasons. The junior tallied four goals and two assists this season and helped anchor the Raiders midfield. Rooma becomes the third WSU player to garner the First Team honor a trio of times, joining Sharon Roscoe (1999-2000-2001) and Mary Beth Young (2002-2003-2004).

On the All-League Second Team for WSU was senior defender Cassie Jones, who is appearing for the first time since garnering All-Newcomer honors in 2004. Jones has been a part of the backline for WSU the last four season and is a part of a defensive unit that owns a 0.95 goals against average for their career. During her time at WSU, her senior class has posted more wins (44) over their careers than any other class.

For the 13th straight season the Raiders have placed at least one player on the All-Newcomer team, as Kasmer and fellow rookie Jen Agueci were each bestowed the honor. Agueci tallied three goals this season for the Raiders and ranked fourth on the team in points. The Ontario native started all 17 matches for WSU during her freshman season and gave WSU two threats on the front line.

The Raiders posted one of the most successful seasons in school history, winning 12 matches and posting five Horizon League wins. The 12 wins ties the school record for wins in a season and the five Horizon League victories are the most league wins ever at WSU.

Wright State will enter the Horizon League Tournament as the third seed will play host to the sixth-seeded Titans of Detroit. The Raiders and Titans will take to the pitch on Saturday, November 3 starting at 2:00 at Alumni Field. Live Video footage of the game can be viewed at WSURaiders.com on the Horizon League Network, with audio provided by the voice of the Raiders, Chris Collins, and former men's assistant coach Greg Burgmeier.
