May 8, 2008

DAYTON, Ohio - The College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday that Justin Parker, a junior on the Wright State baseball team, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.

Parker has been a main cog in the WSU lineup this season and ranks among the team leaders in batting average (.387), RBI's (43), home runs (7), hits (53) and runs scored (35). He owns three separate hitting streaks of ten-or-more games and has 17 multi-hit contests this season.

In the classroom, Parker is majoring in Organizational Leadership and carries a GPA of 3.413. He was named to the Academic All-Horizon League Baseball squad last season and was a three-time Scholar Athlete of the Week during his sophomore season. He has also been a member of the Horizon League's Spring Academic Honor Roll during each of the past two seasons.

For his career, Parker ranks among the top-five in a handful of categories at Wright State. The Indiana native ranks fifth in batting average, fifth in doubles, ninth in slugging percentage and tenth in fielding assists. He holds the single season doubles record, with 26 in 2007, and was the 21st member of the 100 run scored/100 RBI club earlier this season.

As a team, the Raiders are sitting in second place heading into their busy weekend of Horizon League play. WSU (24-19, 13-6 HL) will host Youngstown State on Friday, May 9 starting at 3:00 and then entertain Cleveland State on Saturday, May 10 starting at Noon.

To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
