Entering his 23rd season with the Raiders is Director of Athletic Training Tony Ortiz. Ortiz oversees the entire Athletic Training Education and Service programs, which is responsible for the athletic health of over 250 student-athletes at Wright State.
A native of Lorain, Ohio, Ortiz also acts as an instructor in the area of athletic training and is the program director for all student trainers at Wright State. To stay on top of his profession, he continually attends and conducts sports medicine clinics throughout the country.
Before coming to Wright State, Ortiz worked as a teacher and athletic trainer at nearby Beavercreek High School.
In addition to receiving many awards during his career, Ortiz was selected as the Ohio Athletic Trainer of the Year in 1989. He is the past president of the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association and received a National Award of Excellence. Several years ago, he was inducted into the Ohio Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame.
A member of the Ohio Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame and a recipient of the National Athletic Trainer's Most Distinguished Award, Ortiz is also a member of the Ohio Governor's Board on Wellness, Health, and Fitness.
Ortiz received his bachelor's degree in Education and Athletic Training from Bowling Green State University in 1978 and earned his master's degree in Health Education there two years later.
Ortiz resides in Beavercreek with his wife, Lillian, and their daughters, Maria and Melissa.
